About the Artist
Barbra is a mixed media artist driven by curiosity, exploration, and the joy of creating. Her artistic journey has taken her through many forms of expression, including clay, fiber art, polymer clay, metal enameling, papermaking, and mixed media assemblage. Barbra delights in discovering how diverse materials can come together to tell a story.
Handmade paper serves as the foundation for much of her work. From this simple yet transformative material, Barbra creates pieces that reflect personal experiences, and the beauty found in everyday life. Many of her larger works were inspired by time spent at Feather River Art Camp, a place of creativity, collaboration, and artistic discovery.
Community is central to her artistic practice. Barbra believes art is enriched when created and shared with others, which is why teaching has become an important part of her life. She currently teaches at Sonora Arts Studio, the Sonora Senior Center and home art parties. Through workshops in Papermaking, Handmade Cards, Day of the Dead Mini-Altars, and other creative explorations, Barbra encourages others to discover their artistic voice and experience the satisfaction of making something unique by hand.
Today, her work often takes the form of smaller mixed media pieces, many incorporated into one-of-a-kind greeting cards. Because Barbra enjoys working across many materials and techniques, no two pieces are alike. Her guiding principle is simple: creativity should be fun and engaging.
