About the Artist

Brian Sak is a landscape, wildlife, and travel photographer based in Sonora, California, whose work reflects a lifelong connection to the outdoors. A retired fish and wildlife biologist with 33 years of professional experience, Brian brings both an artistic eye and a naturalist’s perspective to his photography. Working primarily with digital photography, his style emphasizes natural light, authentic moments, and carefully composed images that capture the beauty, character, and diversity of the Sierra Nevada, its foothills, and the American West.
Brian draws inspiration from wild landscapes and wildlife of all sizes—from expansive mountain scenes and iconic animals to the smaller creatures that often go unnoticed. Through his photography, he hopes to encourage others to look more closely at the natural world, spend more time outdoors, and develop a deeper appreciation for wild places.
His photograph “Forest Forager,” featuring a Ten-Lined June Beetle, was selected as a winning image in the 2026 California Watchable Wildlife Photo of the Year Contest, and his photograph “Mid-Day Calm” received an Honorable Mention ribbon at the 40th Annual InFocus Photography Competition Exhibition.
